A pesar de que el primer ministro Viktor Orbán había vetado la celebración, el alcalde de la capital, Gergely Karácsony, no se dejó amilanar y autorizó la marcha. Entre los asistentes había unos 70 eurodiputados y numerosos políticos de izquierda de distintos países europeos.
