En marzo se celebra el Día Internacional de la Mujer. Por desgracia, cada vez es más necesario reclamar los derechos de las mujeres y su igualdad en todo el mundo, por lo que nuestro programa de cine mensual les dedicará una especial atención.

Un ciclo titulado "Espacio femenino" mostrará películas contemporáneas realizadas por directoras españolas, otro organizado por el India Habitat Centre, y bajo el sugerente título "Empoderamiento de la mujer", proyectará la película española Te doy mis ojos se proyectará junto a otras de diversos países. Además el Festival de Cine Europeo, organizado por la Delegación de la UE en la Índia y que se proyectará en 11 ciudades de la India, se dedica em esta edición a las mujeres, bajo el título "Celebrando la mujer".

Más cine español estará también presente en Goa, Coimbatore y Bangalore. La música volverá a nuestro escenario con dos grandes músicos de talla internacional, el violinista Ara Malikian y el guitarrista Juan Francisco Padilla, quienes interpretarán música española desde la más tradicional al flamenco, pasando por grandes compositores del repertorio clásico como Falla, Albeniz o Sarasate. Actuarán también en el National Centre for Performing Arts de Bombay.

El arte plástico y el paisajismo seguirán en exposición en nuestro centro, con los trabajos realizados por los artistas españoles, Los Vendaval y Montse Carballo durante su residencia artística en la India, y las fotografías de algunos de los jardines diseñados por Fernando Caruncho por el mundo.

March is the month of the International Women’s Day. Unfortunately nowadays it is more and more necessary to claim for women rights and her equality all over the world, so our monthly cinema program will be focus on women. One series entitled “Women space” will show contemporary movies shooted by Spanish women directors, the second one entitled “Women’s empowerment” will be screened at the Índia Habitat Centre with other intenational movies. The third one is the European Film Festival organized by the EU Delegation in India and will also focus on women under the title “Celebrating women”, and will be screened in 11 cities around India. More Spanish cinema will be also present at Goa, Coimbatore and Bangalore.

The music Will come back to our stage with two great international players, Ara Malikian (violin) and Juan Francisco Padilla (guitar), Who Will play Spanish music from the traditional to the the flamenco through the classical repertoire. They will also play in Mumbay at NCPA.

The plastic art and the landscape design will keep on show at our Exhibition Gallery with the works done by the Spanish artists, Los Vendaval and Montse Carballo during their artistic residency in Índia, and the photos of the gardens designed by Fernando Caruncho all over the world.

Fernando Caruncho, es un paisajista con experiencia de 33 años, durante los cuales ha realizado más de 150 proyectos, tanto de ámbito público como privado. Su exposición “Espejos del Paraíso II. Los Jardines de Fernando Caruncho” muestra fundamentalmente los últimos 15 años de su labor diseñando jardines. Al mismo tiempo queda complementada por los documentales de ZDF/Arte (The Green World of Fernando Caruncho) y la BBC (Around the World in 80 Gardens), documental realizado por el más conocido crítico y divulgador de jardines del Reino Unido, Monti Don, quien seleccionó uno de los jardines de Fernando Caruncho como ejemplificación de la gran tradición del jardín. Como se observa en la exposición y en los filmes en Fernando Caruncho confluye la gran tradición del jardín indoeuropeo que es reinterpretado con las fórmulas del mundo contemporáneo a través de la geometría y las conexiones del jardín con el mundo del paisaje en el que se funden naturaleza y pensamiento.

Landscape designer Fernando Caruncho has 33 years of experience and has completed more than 150 projects both public and private. His exhibition “Mirrors of Paradise II. The Gardens of Fernando Caruncho” shows his garden design work over the past 15 years. At the same time thee exhibition is complemented by both documentary films produced by ZDF / Arte (The Green World of Fernando Caruncho) and the BBC (Around the World in 80 Gardens). The last one, introduced by the critic and best known broadcaster of gardens in the UK, Monti Don, who selected one of Fernando Caruncho’s gardens as an example of the grand garden tradi-tion. As seen in the

exhibition and in the films, in Fernando Caruncho it is merge the great tradition of the Indo-European garden, which is reinterpreted with the formulas of the contemporary world through the geometry and the connections of the garden to the landscape, which blends both na-ture and thought.

Sinopsis: En septiembre-octubre de 2012, tres artistas españoles, Los Vendaval (Rocío Arévalo Vargas y Pablo Alonso de la Sierra Figueroa) y Montse Caraballo Caro, participaron en el 5º NIV Art Centre International Artist Residency (Locus Solus: Rasa * 12) en Nueva Delhi. Expuestos a la agitada energía de la ciudad por ese breve período de tiempo, crearon las obras expuestas de nuevo en el Instituto Cervantes. Por lo tanto, la encarnación de esta fórmula: Locus Solus: espacio propio (algo parecido a una sala de la propia); Rasa: estética y emociones; * como un significante y multiplicador, y el número 12 para denotar los 12 artistas y el año 2012. En la presente muestra, el numeral 3 ha sido insertado para denotar los tres artistas. El título, Locus Solus - lugar solitario o único sentido – se refiere a la novela proto-surrealista de Raymond Roussel (1914) en la que un científico llamado Canterel equipa laboratorios de lujo en una villa cerca de París. Cada habitación muestra una de las invenciones ingeniosas de su enciclopédica mente. Se considera al artista como un Canterel moderno que destila su obra de arte única a partir de los componentes de la moda, el diseño, la arquitectura, el cine, la música y los sistemas de información en su laboratorio / estudio. Al preguntarse cómo una experiencia o el tiempo afectará a un artista y su obra, es necesario dar un paso atrás y permitir que el sentido del tiempo se expanda, estirándose hacia un futuro imprevisible. Rasa (en sánscrito ? ? lit. "jugo" o "esencia") denota un estado mental esencial y es el tema emocional dominante de una obra de arte o el sentimiento primario que se evoca en la persona que la observa, lee o escucha.

Synopsis: In September-October 2012, three Spanish artists, Los Vendaval (Rocio Arevalo Vargas and Pablo

Alonso de la Sierra Figueroa) and Montse Caraballo Caro, participated in the 5th NIV Art Centre International Artist

Residency (Locus Solus: Rasa*12) in New Delhi. Exposed to the churning energy of the city for that brief period of time, they created the works shown anew in this exhibition at Instituto Cervantes. Thus, the incarnation of this

formula: Locus Solus: Own Space (sort of akin to a room of one’s own); Rasa:  esthetics and emotions; * as a signifier and multiplier; and the number 12 to denote the 12 artists and the year 2012. Herewith, the numeral 3 has been inserted to denote the three artists. Inherent in the title, Locus Solus – meaning solitary or unique place –

refers to the proto-Surrealist novel by Raymond Roussel (1914) in which a scientist named Canterel fits out luxurious laboratories in a villa near Paris. Each room demonstrates one of the ingenious inventions of his encyclopaedic mind. It considers the artist as a modern Canterel who distils his unique piece of art out of the components of fashion, design, architecture, film, music and information systems in his laboratory/studio. In asking how such an experience or time period will affect an artist and their work, it is necessary to step back and allow the sense of time to expand, to stretch into an unforeseeable future. A rasa (Sanskrit: ? ? lit. 'juice' or 'essence') denotes an essential mental state and is the dominant emotional theme of a work of art or the primary feeling that is evoked in the person that views, reads or hears such a work. How each of the artists shall proceed from this moment on shall prove exciting and unexpected.

Goya en Burdeos Goya in Bordeaux

Sinopsis: Francisco de Goya (1746-1828), sordo y enfermo, vive los últimos años de su vida en el exilio voluntario en Burdeos, una protesta liberal por el opresivo gobierno de Fernando VII. Vive con su joven esposa Leocadia y su hija Rosario. Él continúa pintando en la noche, y en flashbacks agitados por las conversaciones con su hija, por

dolores de cabeza terribles, y por el desconcierto de su edad, vuelve a vivir momentos clave de su vida, especialmente su relación con la duquesa de Alba, su descubrimiento de la forma en que quería pintar (percepción provista por la obra de Velázquez), y su imaginación de toda la vida. En todo momento, sus sueños se convierten

en cuadros de sus pinturas.

Synopsis: Francisco Goya (1746-1828), deaf and ill, lives the last years of his life in voluntary exile in Bordeaux, a Liberal protesting the oppressive rule of Ferdinand VII. He's living with his much younger wife Leocadia and their daughter Rosario. He continues to paint at night, and in flashbacks stirred by conversations with his daughter, by awful headaches, and by the befuddlement of age, he relives key times in his life, particularly his relationship with the Duchess of Alba, his discovery of how he wanted to paint (insight provided by Velázquez's work), and his lifelong celebration of the imagination. Throughout, his reveries become tableaux of his paintings.

No habra paz para los malvados No rest for the wicked Sinopsis: Madrid, principios del siglo XXI. Un día, el inspector de policía Santos Trinidad, volviendo a casa muy

borracho, se ve involucrado en un triple asesinato. Pero hay un testigo que consigue escapar y que podría incriminarlo. Santos emprende una investigación destinada a localizar y a eliminar al testigo. Mientras tanto, la juez Chacón, encargada de la investigación del triple crimen, avanza meticulosamente en la búsqueda del asesino hasta que descubre que lo que parecía un simple caso de tráfico de drogas es, en realidad, algo mucho más peligroso.

Synopsis: The police inspector Santos Trinidad gets involved in a triple murder but there is a witness that manages to escape and could incriminate him. Santos begins an investigation to find and eliminate him. Meanwhile, Judge Chacon, who is investigating the triple murder, goes on looking for the murderer but what seems a simple case of drugs actually is something far more dangerous.

Solas Alone

Sinopsis: María malvive en un oscuro apartamento de un barrio miserable, trabaja eventualmente como chica de la limpieza y, casi con cuarenta años, descubre que está embarazada de un hombre que no la ama. Su soledad es tan grande que sólo encuentra consuelo en la bebida. Su madre, que ha consumido su vida al lado de un hombre violento e intolerante, no tiene ni siquiera el consuelo de tenerla cerca. Con motivo del ingreso de su marido en un hospital, la madre visita a María en su apartamento y conoce a un vecino viudo que vive con su perro. La relación que se establece entre estos tres náufragos alivia sus soledades y deja una puerta abierta a la esperanza.

Synopsis: Maria, whose parents live in the country, cannot stand her father's authoritarian ways and moves to the city. She finds a job as a cleaner and tries to survive in a wretched apartment in the shabby part of a big city. She is pregnant, and the fact that her boyfriend has abandoned her does not help matters. When her father goes to the hospital for an operation, her mother comes to stay with her. Her neighbor, an old recluse whose only friend is his dog, begins to come out of his shell and these three lost souls try to give each other the strength to start over.

Celda 211 Cell 211

Sinopsis: Juan Oliver quiere causar una buena impresión en su nuevo trabajo como funcionario de prisiones y se presenta a trabajar un día antes, dejando a su esposa embarazada, Elena, en casa. Su destino cambia para siempre por esta fatídica decisión, ya que durante su visita a la cárcel, se produce un accidente que lo deja inconsciente. Él es llevado a la vacía pero misteriosa celda 211. Los planes se van desarrollando y los reclusos de los bloques de alta seguridad se liberan estratégicamente para tomar la cárcel. Conscientes de la violencia que se aproxima, los funcionarios de prisiones huyen, dejando atado e inconsciente a Juan en el corazón de la revuelta. Cuando Juan se despierta hace inmediatamente un balance de la situación. Para poder sobrevivir tiene que pasar por un preso. Juan habla con el líder del motín violento, Malamadre, y los dos comienzan a unirse. Malamadre cree completamente que Juan es un nuevo recluso. Las negociaciones van bien... por el momento.

Synopsis: Juan Oliver wants to make a good impression at his new job as a prison officer and reports to work a day early, leaving his pregnant wife, Elena, at home. His destiny is forever changed by this fateful decision, as during his tour of the prison, an accident occurs that knocks him unconscious. He is rushed to the empty but visible haunted walls of cell 211. As this diversion unfolds, inmates of the high security cell block strategically break free and hijack the penitentiary. Aware of the violence that is to come, the prison officers flee, leaving Juan stranded and unconscious in the heart of the riot. When Juan awakens, he immediately takes stock of the situation; in order tosurvive, he must pretend to be a prisoner. Juan develops a dialogue with the violent leader of the riot, Badass, and the two begin a partnership, Badass fully believing that Juan is a new inmate. Negotiations go smoothly... by the moment.

Nocturna, una aventura mágica Nocturna, a magical adventure

Sinopsis: En la oscuridad de la noche, cuando las sombras se alargan y cobran vida propia, los ruidos recorren caprichosos las casas y todos los rincones parecen esconder algo misterioso, nuestra imaginación se llena de temores. Sólo la luz de las estrellas, de las farolas y de la luna a través de la ventana, consigue convertir esos fantasmas en formas reconocibles y ahuyentar nuestros miedos. Pero... ¿Os imagináis qué ocurriría si de repente toda luz se extinguiera por completo? Un súbito apagón de estrellas amenaza con dejar la noche sumida en la más profunda oscuridad. Tim, un niño asustadizo que vive en un orfanato, se llenará de valor para resolver este desastre enfrentándose a su propia sombra que es fruto de sus miedos. Synopsis: In the aging orphanage the days pass very uneventfully, but the nights are something quite different; at least for Tim they are. The light reflected from the stars is the only cure for his fear of the dark. One night this fear leads him to the orphanage rooftop, where he discovers that his favourite star has disappeared. Unfortunately it's

not going to be the last one. Tim also discovers a peculiar character that goes by the name of the Cat Shepherd together with his faithful cat Tobermory, the latter to become Tim's personal guardian. The Shepherd is in charge of making children sleep peacefully, but Tim is not about to go to bed. He needs his star more than anything in the world, and will do what it takes to see it shine in the night sky once again.

Sinopsis: En los duros años de la posguerra en el campo catalán, Andreu, un niño que pertenece al bando de los perdedores, encuentra los cadáveres de un hombre y su hijo en el bosque. Las autoridades quieren que su padre se haga responsable de las muertes, pero Andreu intenta ayudarle, averiguando quién realmente ha matado a

esas personas. En esta búsqueda, Andreu desarrolla una conciencia moral frente a un mundo de adultos alimentado por las mentiras. Para sobrevivir, traiciona sus propias raíces y acaba descubriendo el monstruo que habita en él.

Synopsis: In the harsh post-war years' Catalan countryside, Andreu, a child that belongs to the losing side, finds the corpses of a man and his son in the forest. The authorities want his father to be made responsible of the deaths, but Andreu tries to help his father by finding out who truly killed them. In this search, Andreu develops a moral consciousness against a world of adults fed by lies. In order to survive, he betrays his own roots and ends up finding out the monster that lives within him.

Biografías: Ara Malikian es uno de los violinistas más brillantes y expresivos de su generación. En posesión de un estilo propio, forjado a partir de sus propios orígenes y experiencia musical rica, su voz artística se ha convertido en una presencia original e innovadora en el mundo y la escena musical. Malikian ha sido reconocido en muchos concursos de fama mundial, entre ellos primeros premios en los Concursos Internacionales "Felix Mendelssohn"

(1987 Berlín, Alemania) y "Pablo Sarasate" (1995 Pamplona, España). Además, "Zino Francescatti" (Marsella,

Francia), "Rodolfo Lipizer" (Gorizia, Italia), “Juventudes Musicales" (Belgrado, Serbia), "Rameau" (Le Mans,

Francia), "International Artists Guild" (Nueva York, EE.UU.) y el "Concurso Internacional de Música de Japón". En

Biographies: Ara Malikian is one of the most brilliant and expressive violinists of his generation.
