Sinopsis: En este sólido, iluminador y ameno estudio, los autores investigan la naturaleza de la «indianidad», porque más allá de las diferencias étnicas o sociales existe una unidad subyacente en la gran diversidad de la India que necesita ser reconocida. Centrándose en lo que constituye una identidad común india, los autores examinan en detalle la predominancia de la familia, la comunidad y la casta en la vida cotidiana, la actitud hacia el sexo y el matrimonio, los prejuicios, el concepto del «otro» (sobre todo en relación con el conflicto hindú-musulmán), de la salud y la muerte, así como la mente india, muy moldeada por la visión hindú. Sobre la base de tres décadas de investigación y fuentes tan variadas como el Mahabharata, el Kamasutra, los escritos de Gandhi, las películas de Bollywood y el floklore, los autores han creado un rico y revelador retrato de los indios.

Biografía: Sudhir Kakar es un psicoanalista y escritor indio de fama mundial. Ha sido profesor en Viena, McGill, Melbourne, Chicago. Actualmente es profesor asociado en INSEAD en Fointainbleau (Francia). Cuenta con reconocimientos como el Kardiner Award de la Universidad de Columbia y la medalla Goethe de Alemania.

Le Nouvel Observateur lo situó como uno de los 25 pensadores de mayor relevancia del mundo.

Patricia Palomar Recio es licenciada en Traducción e Interpretación por la Universidad de Salamanca y ha cursado un Máster en Diplomacia y Relaciones Internacionales, con especialización en Cooperación al Desarrollo.

Actualmente es profesora de lengua y literatura españolas y traducción en la Universidad de Rajastán (Jaipur- India), profesora de español en Amity University (Jaipur-India) y profesora colaboradora en el Postgrado en Traducción e Interpretación consecutiva español-inglés de Indira Gandhi National Open University (India). Vive desde hace 3 años y medio en India.

Synopsis: In this solid, enlightening and entertaining study, the authors investigate the nature of 'Indianness', because beyond ethnic or social differences exists an underlying unity in diversity of India that needs to be recognized.
