A propósito de Linescapes

La línea define un espacio entre dos puntos. La línea es abstracta y virtual; ordena el espacio, representa límites entre materiales y conforma objetos. Trazando líneas se simula un espacio real que permanece digital hasta que se materializa; a la vez sugiere geografías, paisajes ingravidos, campos magnéticos o estructuras indeterminadas. Las líneas forman redes de tensión que responden a sistemas de códigos invisibles, son filamentos que nos encadenan o nos liberan.

En Linescapes, la artista y arquitecta Inés Esnal traslada la línea desde la esfera virtual a la física combinando técnicas digitales de diseño y de fabricación con las tradicionales del grabado. Utilizando programas de 3d y algoritmos para definir espacios que de otra manera serian inconcebibles, Esnal juega con planchas de plexiglás como si fueran piezas de una maqueta, buscando tensiones entre las formas, descomponiendo  elementos y superponiendo texturas.

Una instalación coloniza parte del jardín del Cervantes y supone la materialización final de la línea en el espacio. A través de cuerdas de colores que envuelven la estructura existente en el jardín, la telaraña es la versión tridimensional de sus dibujos. El filtro tejido redefine la entrada del edificio del Amster Yard invitando al visitante a redescubrir su propia experiencia espacial.

About Amster Yard Project: Open Space

The Amster Yard Project Open Space is a new creative initiative launched by the Instituto Cervantes New York to promote, develop and implement creative multidisciplinary interventions and programs at the spaces of the Instituto Cervantes in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The Amster Yard Open Space aims to activate the unique space in and around its landmark Amster Yard building through the display of innovative proposals by new emerging talents in the arts through the first half of 2011.

The last show of the series will be on July 7.
