Miércoles 22 de octubre de 2014

Machu Picchu, a sacred city built by Inca Pachacutec, the greatest conqueror of the Inca civilization during the 15th century, is celebrating one hundred years of its scientific discovery. In 1911, the American archeologist Hiram Bingham organized an expedition comprised by a group of different specialists, and with the assistance of the University of San Antonio Abad in Cusco, could reach this enigmatic and extraordinary site.

Machu Picchu was a hidden city and a monument to the real power of the spirit. It was erected at the top of a granite mountain representing one of the most extraordinary examples of scenic architecture and engineering technique ever built.

In 2010, the blockbuster “Endhiran – Robot” directed by S. Shankar presented a dancing sequence, filmed in this archeological site, named as Taj Mahal, as a new seven wonder of the world in 2007.

The Embassy of Peru in India and the Cervantes Institute in Delhi are organizing a Photographic Exhibition in commemoration of the 100 years of the discovery of Machu Picchu to the world. This exhibition will present photos taken during the first expedition of Hiram Bingham in 1911, as well as maps of the period of the expedition, panoramic shoots, and big scale photos of its main buildings, impressive natural surroundings and flora and fauna of the Machu Picchu Sanctuary.

The inauguration will be held on June 24 at 7:00 pm at Cervantes Institute headquarters in 48, Hanuman Road, Connaught Place, New Delhi. We would like to invite you to discover this wonderful site of the Inca civilization. The exhibition will be opened till July 28, 2011.
