Born in Madrid, he spent his childhood studying music at the conservatorium in Madrid and Barcelona. He went to art school in Madrid and at the age of 14 he was already painting portraits for American GI to support his studies. After a little while, he got a job in the art department of a film studio, which was the beginning of his film career.
He has collaborated with more than 20 films and wrote and co-wrote the screenplays of 5 of them, including “Mission Lisboa”, “Cauldron of Blood” with Boris Karloff, “Madigan’s Milion” with Dustin Hoffman. He worked with directors such as Orson Welles, Ken Annekin, Sergio Leone and Richard Rush.
During this time, Luis Bayonas started painting again and he had his first solo exhibition in the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, followed by seven more in Sydney and Melbourne. After that, he filmed “Dancing Cows”, his first feature film as director-writer-producer-editor-and camera operator, and “Adios”, another feature film starring John Waters.
From May 25 to June 7, Luis Bayonas will exhibit his art at Collingwood Gallery in Melbourne.
