Authors bios
Adam Gidwitz’s first novel, A Tale Dark and Grimm has garnered high acclaim.
Publishers Weekly and School Library Journal both named it one of the Best Children’s Books of 2010, and The New York Times wrote, “A Tale Dark and Grimm holds up to multiple rereadings, like the classic I think it will turn out to be.” Adam writes half the time, and spends the other half teaching second grade math, fifth grade language arts, and high school English in Brooklyn, NY. www.adamgidwitz.com

A visual artist, musician, and psychotherapist, Gary Golio is the author of the New York Times bestselling JIMI: Sounds Like A Rainbow – A Story of the Young Jimi Hendrix, which was named one of Kirkus Reviews’ Best Children’s Books of 2010.  His forthcoming picture books include When Bob Met Woody: The Story of the Young Bob Dylan and Spirit Seeker: The Musical Journey of John Coltrane.  Each story highlights an artist’s roots and early influences, and promotes the idea that artists are models of persistence and commitment, embodying values of imagination, hopefulness, and self-acceptance. www.garygolio.com

Rita Williams-Garcia’s young adult novels are known for their realistic portrayal of teens of color, and have been recognized by the Coretta Scott King Award Committee, PEN Norma Klein, American Library Association, and Parents’ Choice, among others. A National Book Award Finalist for both One Crazy Summer and Jumped, she recently served on the National Book Award Committee for Young People’s Literature and is on faculty at the Vermont College of Fine Arts' MFA Program in Writing for Children and Young Adults. www.ritawg.com
