A message from Group Leader, Lesley Edge:

"Hello to the brains of U3A!

The next quiz is to be held at Dominiques (on the Paseo Maritimo, Los Boliches) on Monday 27th February commencing, as usual, at 7.30 pm.

As you know, tables are limited so please put your name down as soon as possible stating if you have your own team of four, let us have the names, or whether you want to be included in a team.

This quiz will be hosted by Peter and Margaret Cadman so please contact Peter direct to reserve your space/table at [email protected]

Please note: I will not be available next week to check emails so kindly contact Peter, rather than myself, on this occasion.

Just a reminder that admittance is free to all U3A members but members' guests are requested to pay a nominal 1 euro entry for the first visit. Thereafter, they as well as non members' guests are requested to pay 5 euros".

**STOP PRESS **

Peter has already had a good response from our 'quiz enrolled members' and Dominique's can only accept 10 tables, so it will only be a 'first come first served' basis. Please don't turn up unless you have received a confirmation email from Peter.

Science & Technology

Feb 22nd – Mathematics Can Save Your Life.

We all understand that mathematics is useful in physics and engineering. But its use is much broader than that. This talk will look at maths in the courtroom, maths and disease and maths in the entertainment industry. Mathematics can literally save your life!

And finally ....

For those male pensioners amongst us!

What deep thinkers we men are... I mowed the lawn today, and after doing so, I sat down and had a cold beer. The day was really quite beautiful, and the drink facilitated some deep thinking.

My wife walked by, and asked me what I was doing, so I said "nothing".

The reason I said that, instead of saying "just thinking" is because she would have said "about what?".

At that point I would have to explain that men are deep thinkers about numerous topics which would lead to other questions.

Finally, I thought about the age old question:

Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the Crown Jewels? (Note the euphemism!)

Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the Crown Jewels.

Well, after another beer, and some heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with the answer to that question: Getting kicked in the Crown Jewels must be much more painful than having a baby!

Here is the reason for my conclusion. A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, "It might be nice to have another baby!"

On the other hand, you would logically never hear a guy say,

"You know, it might be nice to have another kick in the Crown Jewels"!!

I rest my case - and it's time for another beer...

Have a great week!

Peter
